Description of Responsibilities:

The Controller at Nelson Pipeline Constructors, LLC will be able to interact with others throughout the Company to provide financial and management information analyses, reports, and recommendations.  The Controller will also provide budgeting and forecasting of financial outcomes and proactively implement controls to enhance positive results.

  • Maintain the integrity of the workflow processes and internal controls to ensure accurate and timely reporting of operating and financial results.
  • Coordinate the preparation of periodic financial statements, operations and management reports, ad-hoc analyses, forecasts, and budgeting.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity over the accounting, billing, and payment processes as they relate to the organization’s financial, banking, and tax auditing procedures.
  • Ensure the processing of weekly payroll and accurate withholding of benefits and taxes.  Experienced with prevailing wage project requirements and payroll to ensure strict compliance.
  • Prepare journal entries as appropriate to record daily and monthly financial transactions and ensure reconciliation of daily cash activity and monthly general ledger accounts.
  • Work with the primary contact for external auditors and prepare audit support schedules.
  • Assist in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance required to operate in various jurisdictions and/or States.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Recommend, develop, and maintain financial databases and computer software systems.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate department staff.

Requirements:
  • Possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrates the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities with work projects.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Proficient with computers and accounting software programs.  Microsoft Office Suite: Strong experience in Excel.
  • Viewpoint Vista and B2W software experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 5 plus years of related accounting experience.
  • Experience in the construction industry preferred.

Successful completion of the CPA exam is preferred, not required.

Project Accountant

Description of Responsibilities:

Nelson Pipeline Constructors, LLC is hiring a Project Accountant for their Centennial, Fort Lupton, and CO Springs offices. The Project Accountant’s primary responsibility is to support the project team regarding contract modifications, compliance, payments, reports, and any other duties related to the project. The ideal candidate will have a strong project accounting background with exposure to the Construction industry. The Project Accountant reports to the Project Accounting Manager, while working directly with the Project management team.

Required Skills:
  • Responsible for full cycle Project Accounting from contract to close out.
  • Purchase order & subcontract ledger creation.
  • Expense approval and tracking to budget
  • Issue project billings and drive payment collection.
  • Month-end close including WIP review
  • Support Project Manager with initial job buy-out.
  • Create and maintain project-related records, including contracts, change orders and subcontracts.
  • Monitor and ensure the integrity of project financials in the company’s accounting system.
  • Perform comprehensive accounting activities in accordance with GAAP. Will include transaction processing for AP, AR, Payroll, and Job Costing.
  • Perform budget vs. actual analysis on the assigned jobs to drive profitability.
  • Perform reconciliations and maintain documentation related to balance sheet accounts such as cash, receivables, prepaids, fixed assets, WIP, deposits, line of credit, accruals, etc.
  • Facilitate month-end close process including preparation of journal entries.
  • Preparation of various tax reports including sales/use and personal property.
  • Assist with quarterly overhead budget analysis and updates.
  • On a monthly basis spend time with the Project Manager out on the job sites.
  • Prepares documents and reports for internal and external auditors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Previous experience with Viewpoint or B2W software preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work effectively in a small office environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication skills in working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues accurately, in a timely manner
  • Self-starter, deadline focused, team oriented, accountable, and adaptable to fast paced environment

Project Manager

Description of Responsibilities:

The project manager position plans direct, and coordinates budgets, usually through estimator and superintendents, activities concerned with the construction of underground utility projects.

Participates in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversees its organization, scheduling, and implementation. This position provides hands-on construction management experience supporting field construction activities tied to infrastructure projects such as earthwork, deep foundations, underground utilities, etc.  Maintain job profitability at the bid or better while frequently reporting to Company Officer or President all significant variance to job costs. The project manager is the Point of Contact for all functions of the project unless clearly delegated by the written directive.  Manage project development from initiation to closure for multiple construction projects. Direct execution of all aspects of projects, including pre-bid meetings, proposal preparations, project start-up, contract management, change order management, resource loading, project cost controls, material buy-out, subcontractor management, cash flow management, and change order negotiations.

Pipelayer

Description of Responsibilities:

Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue. Performs all duties associated with laying pipe, working with other members of the construction crew to successfully complete projects within specifications and in a quality manner to meet or exceed customer expectations.  Maintaining the work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly manner on a continuous basis.  Must be able to follow building plans or blueprints and instructions from supervisors, lay out the job, and work efficiently with the materials and tools required for the job.

Required Skills:
  • Configure pipe routes.
  • Align pipes in pipeline sections.
  • Dig trenches with trenching tools.
  • Slide pipe into trenches.
  • Insert spaces in between pipes.
  • Pull out defective or misaligned pipes.
  • Correct alignments.
  • Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications.
  • Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
  • Grade trenches or culverts.
  • Rigging pipe for hoisting
  • Seal joints.
  • Use glue or welding equipment to ensure pipes are tightly fitted.
  • Ensure pipes are fitted and aligned using grade rods or transit levels.
  • Cover pipes with dirt or other material.
  • Drill holes into pipes for auxiliary lines.
  • OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate.

3-5 years

Physical Demands:
  • Work requires the ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds independently and be able to perform physical labor up to 10 hours a day.
  • Work requires the ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force frequently. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, reaching, climbing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, and sitting.
  • Material and Equipment Directly Used: Must be able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment such as computers, forklifts, power tools, and hand tools.

Water Truck Driver

Description of Responsibilities:

Drive a water truck with a capacity of 3,000 gallons, to transport water to and from specified destinations. Responsible for loading trucks either from a water tower or from a designated source.  Responsible for applying water to the construction area either for dust control or to help achieve compaction of construction materials. Must maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations.  Responsible for daily inspection of truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.

Required Skills:
  • The ability to comprehend and follow directions.
  • Interpersonal competencies include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, being dependable, and cooperation.
  • Ability to drive water truck with caution on the project site.  The ability not to hurt other employees or damage materials of the job site while driving.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand to operate and repair heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to lift to 75 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at construction job sites.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
